We are currently working with a dynamic transportation company in the High Wycombe area, and they are in need of a skilled Operations Manager to join their management team. This company operates a fleet of approximately 50 vehicles and employs around 90 dedicated individuals, all focused on delivering local commercial bus routes. The organisation is poised for exciting developments in the coming months, making it an ideal time to become part of their team.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth, legal, and efficient operation of the services offered by the company. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, you will oversee a team of professionals and take charge of several critical responsibilities, including:

  • Acting as the Transport Manager under the Company Bus Operator’s Licence.
  • Ensuring operational compliance and serving as the primary point of contact for existing operations contracts, as well as potential future contracts, while nurturing strong and sustainable relationships with key clients.
  • Ensuring legal compliance across all facets of the business, including driver hours compliance and reporting incidents to DVSA.
  • Cultivating positive working relationships with Unite the Union.
  • Monitoring compliance and collaborating with the Head of Commercial & Planning, as well as other departments and direct reports, to optimise performance tracking and address punctuality issues.
  • Managing punctuality improvement partnerships where they exist, guaranteeing that agreed-upon targets are met and maintained.
  • Completing all required daily, periodic, and annual reports and KPIs within specified timelines.
  • Conducting fact-finding meetings, colleague interviews, and disciplinary meetings as necessary.
  • Establishing and maintaining processes and practices that drive optimal performance, productivity, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Enhancing the customer experience by upholding driving and customer service standards and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Providing management and support to direct reports to ensure that workloads align with their roles, setting challenging targets, and reviewing succession and talent planning.
  • Organising regular team meetings to deliver relevant information and departmental messages in a positive manner.
  • Addressing performance and attitude issues in an appropriate and timely manner, including mentoring and coaching as needed.
  • Supporting the Head of Operations in achieving optimal standards in their role.
  • Presenting a strategic vision with a drive to grow the business and an ability to articulate a coherent business case.
  • Implementing and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures, while offering explanations for any breaches and ensuring lessons are learned from such incidents.

Qualifications:

  • A Transport Manager’s CPC, as you will be named on the Operator’s Licence.

  • Salary: The salary for this position is competitive and dependent on your experience, ranging from £42,000 to £50,000 per annum.
