C9 Recruitment is hiring an Assistant Depot Manager on behalf of our client, a leading logistics and distribution company. This role is ideal for an experienced professional looking to take on a leadership position, supporting the Depot Manager in the day-to-day running of the distribution depot, fleet, and warehouse operations to ensure smooth and efficient service delivery.
The Role:
Operational Support: Assist the Depot Manager in overseeing all aspects of depot operations, including managing distribution schedules, warehouse activities, and 3PL warehouse duties (if applicable).
Fleet & Delivery Coordination: Ensure all deliveries are completed on time by covering driver routes when required, managing vehicle tracking systems, and monitoring fleet compliance with regulations.
Supervision & Training: Lead and mentor a team of permanent and agency drivers, providing training, monitoring performance, and ensuring adherence to company policies.
Compliance & Reporting: Maintain accurate records, create daily/weekly/monthly management reports and KPIs, and ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards, vehicle checks, and temperature monitoring.
Problem-Solving & Customer Service: Handle delivery issues, fleet concerns, and customer queries by working closely with internal teams such as customer service and senior management.
Hands-On Support: Assist with warehouse operations, including loading/unloading, preparing loads, and processing returns to ensure smooth daily operations.
Depot Management Cover: Act as Deputy Depot Manager during periods of absence, ensuring continued efficiency and reliability.
Salary: £28,000-£30,000 per annum, depending on experience
What We’re Looking For:
Previous experience in transport, logistics, or depot operations
Strong leadership and people management skills
Knowledge of fleet and route planning, including compliance regulations
Ability to remain calm and organised in a fast-paced environment
Basic IT skills (Excel, Word, etc.) for reporting and administration
Full UK driving licence
FLT licence desirable
Physically fit and comfortable with hands-on work
